1996
Educational Advancement Centre (EAC) is one of the earliest Advanced level Schools in Nigeria, founded in 1996 after the scrapping of the Lower and Upper Sixth form of the former Higher Secondary School (HSC) with the introduction of the 6-3-3-4 Educational system by the Federal Government of Nigeria. EAC was established to provide an alternative route into the university for the Secondary School graduating students who were on the verge of frustration, having been disappointed by the “ALMIGHTY JAMB” several times. With just three students; one of whom is the child of the Coordinators, make-shift facilities and part-time teachers, the Centre strove to become an acknowledged Centre of Excellence in the country.EAC was built on a tradition of excellence: Nothing short of the best is considered good enough. The atmosphere at the Centre is calm, and most conducive for academic. Students are thoroughly grilled to prepare them for the toughest of examinations, not just for the immediate future, but for life. “As our main aim is not just to get the students admitted into the University, but to prepare them for success in life, important study skills are imparted into them to improve their private study life and performance in examinations”. Student’s attendance and participation are monitored constantly to avoid waning attention and detect distractions. Where it is considered necessary to involve Parents or Guardians of these wards, such is done promptly. Teachers are carefully selected, and continuously groomed with world – class materials, and monitored to get the best out of them. Cordial relationship between the teachers and the students are also nurtured, to ensure that the best is passed across from the teachers EAC is simply the best option! And now, our results speak!In the first decade, the whole of the Centre was housed in the present Administration building at Number 45 Awolowo Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan.
2006
EAC celebrated her tenth anniversary in 2006, displaying an impressive list of past students, with most of them having graduated with First Class and Second Class Upper degrees from Universities in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, South Africa and the United States of America. The second decade of the Centre was marked with acknowledgments of her achievements in the annals of the education industry in Nigeria by many institutions and individuals. She became registered as a recognized school by the British Council of the United Kingdom and the Educational Testing Service “College board” of the United States of America.
Based on an observation of the downward trend in student performance at the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), and the quality of students coming into her A’ Level programme, EAC introduced the concept of “Standardised Diagnostic Testing” in 2007 for final year Senior Secondary School Students. The Examination termed “Pre-SSCE” was designed to ascertain their readiness for the SSCE as a kind of formative assessment providing feedback on the weak areas of each candidate in each subject.
The Assessment became an important tool for many Secondary Schools who took advantage of it to fine-tune their preparation of the students for the final examination with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO).
2009
In 2009, the Pre-SSCE was adopted by the Oyo State Government as her Mock / Qualifying Examination for some 60,000 students in SS3 classes all over the State. The result of the exercise showed that students in the same schools had similar weak areas in subjects, suggesting that poor performance could be traced to “teachers”.
Stimulated by a desire to do something about this, EAC introduced “Mobile Learning” bringing E-learning to mobile phones. This effort earned the Coordinator of the Centre a Global Award as Number 9 in the World!
Not fully impressed with the attitude of students to e-learning, EAC kept on searching for friendly solutions and eventually stumbled on “video in learning”. EAC set up a studio and contracted RRSAT of Israel for Satellite broadcast via Amos 5 satellite to the African continent on the first of January, 2013 as “Calvary Network”. She later moved to the more popular Intelsat 20 (My TV) which covered Africa better than Amos 5 as “Schoolonair TV”. The impact was tremendous!
2016
EAC celebrated her twentieth anniversary in Grand Style from Lagos to Ibadan.
