Training Workshop for Science Teachers and Principals of Secondary Schools

Oyo State Post Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) in Collaboration with Educational Advancement Centre recently underwent a Training workshop in Strategic leadership for School Transformation and Outstanding Performance and Introducing Excellent into Science Teaching.

More than 600 principals of Oyo State Post Primary Schools’ Teaching Service Commission were taken through Strategic leadership for School Transformation and Outstanding Performance at which the training programme was held at these following venue “Saki, Iseyin, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Eruwa, Ibadan 1 and Ibadan 2.

The programme was packaged by Educational Advancement Centre, a leading training consulting firm.

Six (6) experienced resource persons took participants through topics like Redefining the Future of Education in Oyo: Taking the Principal on a Visionary Dream, Enhancing Well-being in Our Schools: A Guide for Principals, Leveraging Technology to Enchance Learning in Secondary Schools, Building Bridges: Engaging Community and External Support for School Development, Developing an Effective Team, Enhancing Financial Management Skills for School Principals.

The Executive Chairman of Oyo TESCOM, Pst. Akinade Alamu led other board members and senior members of the commission to the training programme.

In his address, the TESCOM boss charged all participants and present administration in ensuring that the State Post Primary Schools operate at the highest level of the training and service delivery that would inspire our students, teachers and all stakeholders and propel same in the attainment of higher and greater accomplishment, to be resourceful and always be above board.

Welcoming participants, the lead Consultant at Educational Advancement Centre harped on regular training and retraining of school administrators and other personnel in the public/civil service, adding that it as the catalyst needed for improved productivity amongst civil/public servants.

In his welcome address, Pst. Akinade Alamu, Executive chairman Tescom charged participants as a leaders in their respective schools, their roles cannot be overemphasized that they are in charge of overseeing every aspect of their school, from teacher evaluations to discipline of teachers and students alike, from managing the schools grant and building better human relations with parents and guardians.

The Oyo State Post Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, saddled with the responsibility of providing sustainable, efficient and effective capacity development for excellent performance in the post-Primary Teaching Service of Oyo State, among others, saw the need to organise a two-day training for Science Teachers of Secondary schools in the state who will in turn train the students under their care.

The goal of the national policy on education is to raise students who are useful to themselves and to society.

As Clive Staples Lewis, British writer, literary scholar, and theologian rightly said, ‘Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil’.

The training program with theme: ‘Introducing Executive into Science Teaching at these following venue – Saki, Iseyin, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Eruwa, Ibadan 1 and Ibadan 2.

Six (6) experienced resource persons took participants through topics like Improvising Science Experiments with Locally Available Materials, Engaging Students in Science: Innovative Pedagogical Approaches, Enhancing Science Education with Technology, Assessing Science Learning: Effective Strategies and Tools, Tackling Misconceptions in Science, Fostering Inquiry and critical Thinking in Science Education.

it is no news that science is the root of research and development. For science to be taught appropriately to meet the rising demand of the present age and time, there is the need to introduce the use of ICT.

Teaching science by means of ICT helps to solve the challenges the world is facing today. In a world that is becoming increasingly complex, where success is driven not only by what you know, but also by what you can do with the knowledge, it is imperative for you science teachers to be equipped with skills to solve tough problems, gather and evaluate evidence and make sense of information to be able to teach our children appropriately not only in the classroom but by the effective of use of our phones and laptops.
